One of the things that we all have to deal with from time to time is split ends. After your brand new haircut in North Vancouver, your hair will probably look great for a few weeks, or even a few months if you take great care of it. But after a while, you may start to notice those unattractive frayed ends that usually send you running back for a trim. But if you want to make your salon hair last a little longer between trims, we have some advice.
- Eliminate the use of heated tools as much as you can. Hair curlers, blow dryers, and straighteners are all culprits when it comes to creating split ends. If you just can’t give up the heated styling, be sure to use a heat shield product on your ends before you begin using the tool.
- Use a hydrating hair mask once a week to put some moisture back into your ends. This can help prevent environmental factors like the humidity, or lack thereof, in the air to affect your ends. You can do this in the shower once a week, or wrap your hair in the hair mask and allow it to soak up while you do other things.
- After you shower, try applying a moisturizing hair oil to just the ends of your hair and letting it dry. As your hair dries, it will soak up the oil and keep the ends healthier. So long as you don’t put the oil at your roots or on the main body of your hair, it shouldn’t make your hair look greasy. You can also do this right before bed if you prefer to sleep in wet hair, and allow the oil to soak in overnight.
- Do maintain a regular trimming schedule of about every eight weeks. Just getting that tiniest bit of growth trimmed off the ends every other month really can help prevent split ends from starting in the first place. It will also make your hair look healthier overall, which is likely to help you feel much more confident before your next big haircut in North Vancouver.
