Rehabilitation Treatment: Is It Really Necessary?

by | Mar 4, 2019 | Health

Admitting that you have a drug or alcohol addiction problem is the first step towards a healthier life. The second step you need to take is to seek help, whether from friends, family, or professional healthcare providers.

Friends and family may recommend that you join a rehabilitation treatment program for faster recovery. Such a program can help you stop taking drugs and encourage you to live a happier and healthier life. The treatment program also aims to prevent recovering addicts from having a relapse.

Types of Rehab

The two main categories of rehabilitation treatment include inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.

  • Inpatient treatment. Inpatient rehabilitation centers in Fort Lauderdale provide accommodation and 24/7 medical care to the patients. During their stay at rehab, patients spend most of their time attending classes, therapy, group meetings, and other activities. It is ideal for people who are abusing more than one kind of drug. However, it may feel a little too restrictive for some people because of the many rules.
  • Outpatient treatment. An outbound rehab program, on the other hand, only requires patients to see their doctors a few times each month. If all goes well, a patient can change their schedule, so they only need to visit their doctor once a month. One of the great things about this program is that patients get to spend time with their friends and family. The downside is that you are much closer to temptations.

How Long is Rehab?

Most inpatient patients need to stay at the facility for at least 28 to 30 days. Some programs provide 60 days of treatment while others offer long-term treatment that can last up to 90 days or more.

Some rehabilitation centers offer standard programs that require a minimum stay at the facility. Other facilities that offer individualized programs will base the length of your stay on your level of addiction, as well as your physical, and mental health.
